We not only care for Occombe Farm but many more green and beautiful spaces and places across Torbay. Our role is vital in the protection of Torbay’s stunning natural heritage. In this film, Luke, one of our recent Long Term Volunteers, explains how the Trust cares for Torbay’s beautiful green spaces, the day to day role of our rangers and his experience working with the Trust.

Volunteers Support Us

The Trust could not care for the places we all love without the invaluable help of our volunteer teams. Volunteers help us maintain the many beautiful woodlands, parks, farmlands and coastal spots across Torbay including Occombe Farm, Cockington Country park and Berry Head. They played a vital role in supporting the restoration of Cockington Country Park recently, as part of the 5 year Cockington Green Heart project.

Our Volunteers help us run our visitor centres at Berry Head and Cockington. They help us with fundraising, running events and telling our conservation story too!

We run 9 – 12 month Long Term Volunteer Schemes. An opportunity to gain valuable practical work experience alongside our ranger and education teams, to reinforce learning and increase employability prospects in securing a future the conservation and environment sector.  Find out more…

Torbay's Conservation & Natural Heritage Storyteller

It’s our job to tell everyone about Torbay’s unique and special natural environment. We host hundreds of school children on especially organised school visits every year. We run visitor centres at Cockington and Berry Head to share their own special stories, and ours. We are installing interpretation at sites to tell you more about each special place and we run events for cookery, for walking, for wildlife, for discovery; for all sorts of things. All are run so we can share Torbay’s important conservation story with you! See what events we’ve got coming up soon…

How we Manage the land

Our ranger team care for a whopping 1700 acres of Torbay’s most beautiful green spaces. Their role is very varied with a massive range of responsibilities, from litter picking to wildlife surveys, pathway and woodland maintenance, fencing; even guided walks! They are all passionate about their work and care deeply about Torbay’s natural environment. That’s why they do what they do, in all weathers!

Conservation Caretakers

Want to know more about us?

We are “green guardians” of Torbay’s natural heritage, and it’s a much better place because of the work we do; better for our wildlife and better for all of us! Meet Damian, our Chief Executive as he discusses why the Trust does what it does.

Our activities are wide-ranging but all stem from a desire for environmental, social and economic regeneration. It’s our mission to protect land, conserve nature and strengthen the bonds between people and the natural world of Torbay.

Our Mission

Who are we? This is our story and it begins here....

Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust is an independent charity, which cares for 1,700 acres of Torbay’s most beautiful and precious natural spaces, including Occombe Farm, Cockington Country Park and Berry Head National Nature Reserve and many others. Our mission is to make Torbay a better place for wildlife and people.

We are a small team, passionate about our local natural environment. Our work is guided by a board of locally recruited trustees. We couldn’t achieve as much as we do without a small army of volunteers and a large crowd of members and supporters.

This is a short introduction to who we are.
