This year Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust have introduced a new Coast Wise scheme at Ansteys Cove for coasteering companies that wish to take groups coasteering on the site. Ansteys Cove is one of the best spots in the Geopark for coasteering as the limestone cliffs and gullies have created exhilarating jump spots, scramble points and areas to free climb. These limestone cliffs have also created the perfect environment for wildlife and the cliffs are important geologically with spectacular Devonian coral fossils in the limestone.
Due to the importance of the site for both geology and wildlife the Trust has worked with coasteering providers to introduce a new licence scheme at Ansteys Cove. Coasteering providers now are given a special licence to use the area for coasteering, which includes accreditation to the Geopark Coast Wise Scheme. Through the Coast Wise scheme the companies have pledged to support the nature conservation work at the site through giving a small percentage of their takings to the Trust, they also follow an environmental code of conduct when using the site and the instructors have all been provided with an information pack on the geology and wildlife of Ansteys Cove.
Coasteering is really ‘extreme rockpooling’ and is great way to explore the wilder spots in Torbay and the Geopark. If you fancy a go at coasteering then the companies below are all Coast Wise accredited providers:
