Caring for Torbay’s natural heritage

As an independent conservation charity, Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust is proud to care for nearly 80% of all green spaces in Torbay—that’s over 1,700 acres of countryside, coastline, woodlands, nature reserves, country parks, and farmland.

From the towering limestone cliffs of Berry Head to the peaceful paths of Cockington, woodlands and meadows buzzing with nature to miles of coast paths and bridleways, we protect some of the most beautiful and important places in the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark.

With a small team and the help of passionate volunteers, we work every day to protect these landscapes for people and for wildlife.

We also run Occombe, based in Paignton. Occombe is home to a Farm Cafe, Farm Attraction, Community Garden and Nature Trail – as well as a working farm. Through Occombe we keep our field to fork story alive focusing on local suppliers, wholesome produce and fun. All income generated by Occombe helps to fund our conservation work.

There are lots of ways you can help us too—through donations, membership, volunteering, attending events, or even just by enjoying a coffee at Occombe Farm Cafe. Every action helps us protect Torbay’s coast and countryside for the people and wildlife of today—and for generations to come.

Our Partnership with Torbay Council

Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust manages most of Torbay’s green spaces —through a long-term agreement with Torbay Council, who lease the land to us and contribute a management fee. As an independent charity, we operate separately from the Council, with our own trustees and charitable aims. Together, we work to protect and enhance Torbay’s natural heritage for everyone to enjoy.
