At the beginning of 2015 Thales ATM, on behalf of NATS, will be refurbishing the Navigational Beacon at Berry Head National Nature Reserve.
The current beacon, installed in the 1980’s is being replaced in order to continue serving aircraft passing over the South West of England.
Visually the beacon will remain unaltered but during the works public access will be diverted around the beacon due to men working overhead and excavations taking place.
Both NATS and Thales ATM have been working closely with the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust to ensure that any disturbance to wildlife is kept to an absolute minimum during the refurbishment. An ecological survey has taken place to see which species, if any, may be disturbed, with special attention being paid to the protected species on the reserve.
The work is scheduled to last until the beginning of April.
The Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust and NATS apologise for any disruption the works may cause to your visit.
