VOLUNTEER WITH US
Welcome to the Project InVOLve Volunteering Page.Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust. This page gives you information about how we operate and what you can expect from us.
What kind of work could I do?
The Trust is dedicated to the conservation of the natural and built environment of Torbay and the surrounding area, the provision of recreational facilities and environmental education. We manage 1200 acres of land including Berry Head National Nature Reserve, Cockington Country Park and Craft Studios, Goodrington Seashore Centre, 6 SSSls and the South West Coast Path through Torbay.

We estimate that around 750,000 people use these places each year. We run a busy countryside events programme, lead over 80 school visits per year, are helped by a team of 60 active volunteers, carry out habitat management tasks, wildlife surveys and community involvement projects and advise other land managers on good practice.

We are currently developing a new visitor centre at Occombe Farm and SSSI to demonstrate how farming and wildlife are mutually dependent.

How to get involved:
Much of our work is carried out with volunteers, partly because many people want to learn new skills or do something to help their environment, and partly because we want to encourage people to get involved in their area. You can choose the kind of work that suits you best and the amount of time that you put in.

Contact us for an initial discussion and an application form. We are always happy to have an informal chat.

If you are interested in volunteering regularly or on a placement you will probably be based at Cockington, Berry Head or the Seashore Centre. The specific site manager will discuss the kind of work you want to do, what training you might find beneficial, and will be able to answer any questions specific to the site you are working on.

Depending on what you want to do, the site manager may then arrange a day or two of trial volunteering.

You will have your travel expenses to work reimbursed on a monthly basis; you will be supplied with a badge, safety boots and work gloves if required; training in appropriate areas will be provided; and you will be covered under the Trust's insurance for public liability.

Health and Safety procedures are carefully observed and a standard induction session for new volunteers will be completed prior to work starting for all individuals helping with the work of the Trust in any way.
