OPEN DAY AT TORBAY'S WOODLAND BURIAL SITE
Families interested in woodland burials are being offered two chances to attend an Open Day at Torbay's only woodland burial site at Conqueror Wood, located just off the ring road. Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust who manage the site are holding open days on Thursday 15 July and again on Saturday 7 August, both from 10am until 1pm, to talk to families about how woodland burials work. The open day in July last year was attended by 40 families, many of whom have since reserved a plot. Of the 500 plots available, almost 250 have now been allocated. Plots can be reserved from £400 for a burial or £150 for a burial of ashes. The site is now four years old and has matured considerably since the opening in 2006. The trees, which surround the glades where the burials take place, have grown and are starting to form young woodland which adds to the sense of privacy and peace at the site. As well, the paths around the site with use have become more clearly defined. Steve Bradley from the Trust said "It's been good to see the 15 or so acres of woodland at the site develop over the last few years and we are starting to get a sense of how the mature woodland will look. The burial plots are nestled within woodland strips. Once the trees mature much of the site will still retain some of the best views in the Bay. We look after the site for the benefit of wildlife like the rare Cirl bunting, whilst keeping it accessible for visiting families. The site is also popular with walkers." If you would like more information about woodland burials, but cannot attend the Open Day, contact Julia Tucker at Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust on 01803 606035 for an information pack or visit the Trust's website at www.countryside-trust.org.uk where you can find out more and download all the forms necessary for a burial, or to reserve a plot.
