RETURN OF THE ENGLISH RIVIERA GEOPARK BEER
Following on from its successful launch last year, the official beer of the English Riviera Geopark, will be returning for Occombe Farm Beer Festival this weekend. Torbay's own brewery Bays will once again be brewing 'Beery Head' especially for the Beer Festival where it will showcase alongside over 60 other regional beers and a selection of local ciders and perrys. In 2009, a competition was launched to find a name for the new English Riviera Geopark beer to promote Torbay's status as a Geopark which is awarded to areas with outstanding geological, archaeological, ecological and cultural interest. The competition was won by Bob Cole and Carole Donnelly and 'Beery Head' was a sell-out success at last year's Occombe Beer Festival. The Beer Festival marks the finale of the English Riviera Geopark Festival 2010 which is a week-long celebration of the geology, history and culture of Torbay. Our Geopark is one in a family of Geoparks throughout Europe and the rest of the world, all of which will be celebrating their status this week. For a full programme of the events taking place locally during the English Riviera Geopark Festival, visit the Geopark website www.englishrivierageopark.org.uk Occombe Farm is run by Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust and is a key Geopark site as it connects the rich red soil of our natural environment with the importance of sustainable local produce. The 2010 Occombe Beer Festival will begin at 4.30pm on Friday 4 June and will continue throughout Saturday 5 June. More information and advance tickets are available at www.occombebeerfestival.co.uk or at Occombe Farm Shop.
