Not enough hours in the day!
11th May 2010
The polytunnels are finally taking shape and should be finished soon! Then the hard work begins, as we will have to rotivate the compacted ground and add more soil and compost before planting.
We have lots of seedlings ready to plant when the tunnels are ready, kindly being looked after by seed suppliers, friends and in Chris's (one of the trainees) caravan! We have tomatoes, cucumber, beans (including lots of heritage varieties), and herbs, amongst other things.
In preparation for the polytunnels being finished, Rachel, Chris and Amanda have been constructing six raised beds, which will be installed in one of the polytunnels to create a demonstration area for the public. The other polytunnel will be kept purely for production.
Today the growers also connected up the water pipes and we can now fill up the watering cans without having to trek back to the cafe! We are still on the look out for a greenhouse - please get in touch if you know where we can get one!
