Timber
Larch and Sweet Chestnut extracted from local woodlands in Cockington and The Grove Brixham.
The logs are de-barked and converted into planks using a mobile sawmill.
Some of the wood is used to construct the boardwalk on the nature trail. Larch is used for the treads and Sweet Chestnut for the piles.
Boardwalk is used where the ground is waterlogged. Stone for other parts.
The rest is milled into planks to construct a wooden roof for the new Visitor Centre.
The planks have groves cut into them to make a rain water channel.
The wooden roof.
The wood is also used to construct the new Bird Hide on the nature trail. |
